Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Trust Officer to join the Wealth Management department in Montecito, CA. You will apply fiduciary knowledge to serve high-net-worth clients, manage various trusts, and collaborate with Relationship Managers to grow wealth management business.

The role emphasizes compliance, client communication, and proactive wealth planning, with opportunities to specialize in charitable management, estate services, and legacy planning.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of financial services industry experience required.
  • 5-8 years of experience in trust administration preferred.
  • Currently holds or is eligible for the CTFA or CFP designation preferred.
  • Overseeing management of Trust Real Estate assets preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage revocable and irrevocable trusts, testamentary trusts, probates and related accounts as directed.
  • Identify and address wealth management issues, underwrite/accept new accounts, administer and distribute complex accounts.
  • Oversee management of trust real estate, including inspections, appraisals, insurance and taxes.
  • Provide support for Senior Trust Officers and Fiduciary Trust Manager as needed.
  • Identify regulatory risks and refer issues to legal/compliance experts.
  • Prepare Reg 9 and Administrative Reviews; may serve on Trust Audit Committee.
  • Comply with privacy, security, bank policies, and applicable laws.

About the Role

Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Trust Officer to join the team in our Wealth Management department. As a Trust Officer, you will deliver a World Class Experience by applying deep knowledge and skills in the area of trust and estate matters, investment management, wealth transition, and financial planning to serve high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. May partner with a Relationship Manager or perform the role of Relationship manager in serving clients. Contributes to growth of the wealth management business by participating in and initiating new client acquisition through leveraging fiduciary skills and knowledge in the marketplace. Responsible for identifying and addressing wealth management issues with clients, underwriting/accepting new accounts, administering, terminating and distributing complex accounts. Proactively engages with clients in wealth planning related conversations; collaborates with partners to develop and propose solutions. May have a strategic business segment focus (i.e. charitable management, Estate Management Services, and Legacy Trust). Provides analysis of client’s total financial situation and offers creative thinking to arrive at workable solutions. Communicates directly with clients, business partners and Centers of Influence including external resources i.e. accountants, attorneys, who are related to the client relationship as part of day-to-day administration. Responsible for corporate regulatory and compliance standards. You will be located in Montecito, CA with a fully onsite work schedule.

What We’re Looking For
  • 5-8 years of financial services industry experience required.

Your Responsibilities

The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for management of revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, testamentary trusts, probates, charitable remainder trusts, life insurance trusts, guardianships, and death administration as directed in the governing document.
  • Responsible for identifying and addressing wealth management issues with clients, underwriting/accepting new accounts, administering, terminating and distributing complex accounts.
  • Responsible for overseeing the management of trust real estate in adherence to policies and procedures including but not limited to property inspections, appraisals, insurance, property taxes, property management through third party sources.
  • Provides support for Senior Trust Officers and Fiduciary Trust Manager as needed.
  • Identifies legal and regulatory risks to non-compliance, red flags to trust and estates administration, custodian and agency accounts and refers risk issues to appropriate legal or compliance experts.
  • Prepare Reg 9 and Administrative Reviews for accounts in assigned portfolios; may serve on Trust Audit Committee.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations including, but not limited to, privacy and information security policies, Bank policies, federal and state laws, and bank regulatory guidance.
