Job summary

Burke & Herbert Bank seeks an experienced fiduciary professional to administer trusts, act as executor where named, and manage grantor trusts. The role liaises with the investment unit and clients while preparing court accountings and fiduciary tax returns.

The position requires 5–7 years in trust-related roles, familiarity with investments, and a college degree; CTFA preferred. Travel may be required, and the work is exempt and full-time.

Qualifications

  • College degree required.
  • Professional designation and/or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in trust positions.
  • Familiarity with investments and portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of Virginia Code as it relates to trusts and estates.
  • Working knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • CTFA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of new business to include designation of the bank in testamentary documents and as trustee in revocable grantor documents.
  • Provide liaison between investment unit and client.
  • Prepare annual court accountings and respond to inquiries from Commissioners of Accounts.
  • Coordinate filing of fiduciary income tax returns; ensure returns are filed, taxes paid and refunds received.
  • Prepare trust, agency and estate receipts and disbursements using Trust Accounting System.
  • Research and solve routine account problems independently.
  • Research and solve more complex account problems with assistance of departmental leadership.
  • Ensure timely mailing of Trust Committee Review and Quality Review letters.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective

Administer trust under wills, court order or guardianships. Represent the Bank and qualify as executor for the Bank where named. Act as administrator for grantor trusts and retirement accounts.

Essential Functions

  2. Provide liaison between investment unit and client
  3. Prepare annual court accountings and respond to inquiries from the various Commissioners of Accounts

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and opening cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.

Travel

Travel may be required for this position.

Education and Experience
  1. College degree (or equivalent additional related experience) required.
  2. Professional designation and/or advanced degree preferred.
  3. 5 - 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a trust related positions.
  4. Familiarity with investments and portfolio management.
  5. Knowledge of the Virginia Code as it relates to trusts and estates.
  6. Working knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
  7. CTFA preferred.
