Job summary

Ready Made Trusses & Builders’ Supply in Salt Lake City is seeking an experienced Senior Truss Designer to design complex residential and commercial wood roof and floor truss systems and to serve as a senior technical resource for the design team.

You will use MiTek software, mentor junior designers, review designs for accuracy and code compliance, read architectural and structural plans, and collaborate with customers, Sales, Production, and Operations to bring projects to life.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in wood truss design or structural building component design.
• Strong working knowledge of MiTek truss design software.
• Experience designing roof trusses and floor trusses.
• Experience reviewing or checking truss designs completed by other designers.
• Ability and willingness to train, coach, and mentor developing truss designers.
• Strong understanding of truss engineering principles, construction methods, building plans, and applicable building codes.
• Ability to identify potential design and constructability problems before they reach production or the jobsite.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design complex residential and commercial wood roof and floor truss systems using MiTek software.

• Review and check roof and floor truss designs for accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and completeness before they are released to production.
• Mentor and train less-experienced truss designers, answer technical questions, provide design feedback, and help them develop their skills and efficiency.
• Read and interpret architectural plans, structural plans, blueprints, and construction documents.
• Troubleshoot complex truss design conditions and help resolve design, production, and field issues.
• Help establish and maintain consistent truss design standards, quality-control practices, and design procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve designs for manufacturing efficiency, material utilization, and overall product quality.

Ready Made Trusses & Builders’ Supply is hiring an experienced Senior Truss Designer with mentoring, design review, and MiTek software experience to join our Salt Lake City team. This is not a remote position.

We are looking for an experienced wood truss designer who will personally design complex residential and commercial roof and floor truss systems, while also serving as a senior technical resource for our design team.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Truss Designer

In this role, you will:

• Design complex residential and commercial wood roof and floor truss systems using MiTek software.
• Work directly with customers, Sales, Production, and Operations to understand project requirements and help bring customers’ designs and projects to life.

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

• Significant experience in wood truss design or structural building component design.
• Strong working knowledge of MiTek truss design software.
• Experience designing roof trusses and floor trusses.
• Experience reviewing or checking truss designs completed by other designers.
• Ability and willingness to train, coach, and mentor developing truss designers.
• Strong understanding of truss engineering principles, construction methods, building plans, and applicable building codes.
• Ability to identify potential design and constructability problems before they reach production or the jobsite.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Previous experience as a Senior Truss Designer, Lead Truss Designer, Truss Design Technician, Component Designer, MiTek Designer, or Truss Design Checker is especially valuable.

Compensation

$80,000–$95,000 per year or higher, depending on experience (DOE), technical expertise, MiTek proficiency, and demonstrated ability to review and mentor other designers.
