Position: Diesel Mechanic

A Diesel Mechanic maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements on diesel units and trailers, including Federal DOT inspections, PM Services, Air brakes, and all service-oriented operations on Heavy Duty vehicles. Experience with Freightliner, Volvo, International is a plus. The Diesel Mechanic must have the desire to perform above and beyond the requirements set forth in this job description. Adheres to McCarthy Tire Service policies and standards.

Requirements:
  • CDL Class A or B license desirable but not required.
  • Federal DOT Inspection License
  • Must have tools
  • Must have acceptable MVR, pass Drug Test, and DOT physical
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle condition; identify worn and damaged parts.
  2. Complete preventive maintenance schedules, install component and part upgrades, control corrosion, and perform winterization procedures to keep equipment operational.
  3. Repair vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics. Perform machine shop operations, adjustments, and alignments.
  4. Verify vehicle performance through test drives and system adjustments.
  5. Ensure compliance with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion standards.
  6. Maintain vehicle records by documenting services and repairs.
  7. Operate shop equipment efficiently, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, and perform preventive maintenance.
  8. Manage costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options.
  9. Work hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
