Qualifications

Job description

Responsibilities

The primary objective of the truck mechanic is the repair and upkeep of our fleet in Elkton, Maryland. Ensuring it remains in a safe, effective operating condition to meet production and quality targets on time and within budget. This position is second shift, from 2 pm to 10 pm.

  • Assist equipment technicians or service personnel with technical support via phone, email, or directly at the job site.
  • Develop quick and accurate communication with field personnel and dispatch.
  • Ensure quality repairs to minimize recalls or duplicate work.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental and company safety policies.
  • Adhere to Human Resources policies.
  • Review shop tool requirements to improve work efficiency.
  • Identify and report deficiencies to enhance our PM program's effectiveness and consider additional measures.
  • Participate in technical training with dealers or manufacturers and pass on knowledge to other mechanics.
  • Collaborate with Field Services Dispatchers and parts personnel to ensure timely parts delivery.
  • Work daily with internal departments, field managers, superintendents, and field mechanics.
  • This position is hourly, with overtime as needed.
  • Have sufficient tools to perform the job; the company does not provide industry-standard tools.
  • Keep the service truck clean and organized.
  • Stay within Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, if applicable.
  • Comply with all Trimble/Telogis regulations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Experience & Education/Certification:

  • At least 1 year of field experience repairing heavy construction equipment required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of all components of heavy construction machinery, including diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and control systems.
  • Diagnostic skills for hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems on modern equipment.
  • Ability to make quick, rational repair decisions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials.
  • Ability to schedule repairs, recommend machinery downtime, and order parts.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently and safely.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
  • Experience with Caterpillar ET/SIS, Volvo Prosis/Tech Tool, Cummins InSite.
  • Basic skills in oxy/acetylene torch operation and stick welding (7018, 6010).
