Truck Mechanic

Responsibilities
  • The primary objective of the truck mechanic is the repair and upkeep of our fleet in Elkton, Maryland, ensuring it remains in a safe and effective operating condition to meet production and quality targets on time and within budget. This position is second shift, from 2 pm to 10 pm.
  • Assist equipment technicians or service personnel with technical support via phone, email, or directly at the job site.
  • Develop quick and accurate communication with field personnel and dispatch.
  • Ensure quality of repairs to minimize recalls or duplicate work.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental and company safety policies.
  • Follow Human Resources policies.
  • Review shop tool requirements to improve work efficiency.
  • Observe and report deficiencies to enhance our PM program.
  • Participate in technical training with dealers or manufacturers and relay knowledge to other mechanics.
  • Coordinate with Field Services Dispatch and parts personnel for timely parts delivery.
  • Work closely with Internal Departments, Field Managers, Superintendents, and Field Mechanics daily.
  • This role is hourly, with required overtime as needed.
  • Have sufficient tools to perform job duties; the company does not provide industry-standard tools.
  • Maintain a clean and organized service truck.
  • Stay within HOS regulations and comply with all applicable regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience & Education/Certification:

  • At least 1 year of field experience repairing heavy construction equipment required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of all components of heavy construction machinery, including diesel engines, power transmissions, hydraulics, and other systems.
  • Diagnostic skills for hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.
  • Ability to make quick and rational repair decisions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.
  • Ability to schedule, recommend repairs, and order parts.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and safely.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Experience with Caterpillar ET/SIS, Volvo Prosis/Tech Tool, Cummins InSite, and basic welding skills.
