Summary:

The Truck Loader/Unloader is responsible for safely and efficiently loading and unloading materials, equipment, and supplies onto Articulated Dump Trucks (preferably Bell Trucks) and other transport vehicles on a large-scale civil construction project. This role requires experience handling various construction materials, securing loads for safe transport, and working with heavy machinery operators. The Truck Loader/Unloader will work as part of a construction crew to support excavation, grading, and material transport operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.

Responsibilities:
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment onto Articulated Dump Trucks (preferably Bell Trucks) and other transport vehicles.
  • Ensure that materials are securely fastened to prevent shifting during transport.
  • Work closely with excavator operators, dozer operators, and truck drivers to coordinate loading and unloading tasks efficiently.
  • Assist with sorting and staging materials for delivery to designated job site locations.
  • Operate forklifts, skid steers, or other material-handling equipment as needed.
  • Inspect loads for proper weight distribution and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct daily pre-operation inspections and complete the Daily Equipment Inspection Checklist to ensure the proper functioning of equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of loading equipment to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding crew members, job site conditions, and potential hazards to perform duties safely.
  • Follow all OSHA safety standards and company policies while working on active construction sites.
  • Assist in other job site duties, including general labor, as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or project manager.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience in truck loading/unloading on civil construction projects.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience handling construction materials, securing loads, and working with Bell Trucks is a plus.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with forklifts, skid steers, telehandlers, or other material-handling equipment is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent repetitive use of hands, arms, and legs.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception are required for precise material handling.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on trucks and equipment.
  • Must be able to work in various outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to drive and operate company vehicles, forklifts, and other construction equipment as needed.
Communication Skills:
  • Must be able to give and receive directions effectively for safe and productive job site operations.
Safety Compliance:
  • Understanding of construction site safety procedures and regulations.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions:
  • Work is primarily outdoors on active construction sites with exposure to dust, noise, and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with extended hours as needed.
  • May require travel between job sites based on project needs.
