Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Morenci, AZ is seeking a Truck Driver Trainee to join our on-site operations in an open-pit copper mining complex. You will receive training and mentoring from experienced operators and learn to perform start-up/shut-down, fueling, and safety procedures while supporting loading, hauling, and dumping activities.

The role emphasizes safety and adherence to procedures, with on-site housing support for eligible employees and a pathway for internal progression.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
• Must pass a written assessment where required.
• Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections to maximize equipment life and follow dispatch instructions.
• Receive training, mentoring, and feedback from other operators, supervisors, and equipment trainers.
• Understand changes to assigned work areas and any potential hazards.
• Know startup/shutdown, fueling, fire, runaway, emergency, and accident procedures.
• Knowledge of payload measurement system, over speed alarm, dispatch codes, shovel and truck horn signals, secondary brake, and park brake.
• Safely perform spotting at shovel, loading, transporting material, dumping on stockpiles, and dumping at crusher.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

What You Bring To Freeport

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English

• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures and applicable safety standards

• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $19.00-26.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
