Overview
This position is responsible for operating terminal yard trucks and assisting with the loading and discharging of cargo within the facility.
Must Have: TWIC, heavy hauling experience. This is not an over-the-road position.
Experience is required.
Qualifications
- Must have three (3) years of driving experience in a mule jockey or tractor trailer.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to accurately process alpha/numeric data.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
- Ability to follow procedures and instructions logically and make sound decisions.
- Flexible hours, including nights, overtime, weekends.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Occasional standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, twisting.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent talking and communication.
- Continuous sitting (while driving), grasping, and eye-hand coordination.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-shift mechanical inspection of assigned yard truck and report deficiencies.
- Operate yard truck, ensuring cargo is properly secured for transport, including loading & unloading cargo, containers, and steel/pipe using standard equipment such as flatbed trailers, pipe trailers, open top containers, and moffets.
- Couple and uncouple trailers, changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines.
- Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions, following signals from loading crew, ensuring proper positioning.
- Maintain logs of loads and submit accurate daily activity reports.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, free of debris and hazards, and be aware of surroundings.
- Perform other duties such as general labor as assigned.
