Description

The starting rate for this position is $25-$27. Incremental increases are earned through developing skills and qualifications.


Summary


Drives diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver Pullets (young stock) to our layer barns in all weather conditions, with safety being the first consideration. Other duties include hauling tankers of wastewater and maintaining equipment for bird moves.



Responsibilities


*Drives truck safely to destination, while applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations.



*Transport birds safely from one location to the layer farm destinations.



*Monitor conditions to make sure birds are being handled in safest possible methods to prevent injury or mishandling to birds.



*Assist with bird move activities, pushing carts, disinfecting tires, and operating lift gates.



*Ensures trailer is secure along with items in it.



*Prepare paperwork to meet regulation for travel, document deliveries, and prepare logs to ICC regulation.



*Inspect tractor/trailer, submit reports of indicating vehicle condition.



*Assures D. O. T. Compliance by checking for completed logbooks and checking accuracy of trip reports.



*Helps facilitate vehicle tractor, trailer and lift gate maintenance.



*Comply with all Biosecurity measures.



*Maintain proper bird cart maintenance.



*Facilitate and complete proper bird cart and trailer cleaning and disinfection.



*Transports tankers of wastewater to appropriate destinations.



*Operates equipment to perform outside maintenance tasks.



*Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience


*A minimum of three (3) years driving experience with a class A commercial driver's license, and a satisfactory driving record.



*Experience handling heavy equipment including skid loaders, wheel loaders, etc.



*Welding and metal work fabrication is preferred.



*Must have a tanker endorsement.



*Limited computer skills are preferred.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


*Communicate effectively with staff and customers.



*Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating manual, etc.



*Ability to write common business English and numerical data, as used on shipping bills of lading, gas receipts, trip reports, etc.



*Be able to read and understand chemical disinfectant labels.



Physical Demands


Stand and walk constantly; grip, grasp, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 10 pounds frequently; sit, climb, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.



Work Environment


Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and water, and chemicals. Temperature is regulated for operations standards. Cooler temperatures occur in specific areas. Employees must be comfortable working in all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper personal protective equipment will be required during certain working conditions. Employees are required to comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) due to working in a food manufacturing environment (hairnets, clean clothes, etc.).
