Job summary

NorthStar Energy Solutions, LLC is seeking a Heavy Haul Driver in Grand Prairie, TX to safely transport heavy equipment and oversized loads to job sites, yards, vendors, and project locations. You will ensure on-time delivery, proper securing, and compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.

The role requires a valid CDL A, 3+ years of tractor-trailer experience (heavy haul preferred), and the ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL with clean driving record.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating tractor-trailers; heavy haul experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, hours-of-service, and load securement standards.
  • Ability to read permits, route plans, maps and delivery paperwork.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing per DOT and company policy.

About This Role

NorthStar Energy Solutions, LLC. is hiring! The Heavy Haul Driver is responsible for safely transporting heavy equipment, oversized loads, construction materials, and utility construction assets to and from job sites, yards, vendors, and project locations. The role supports field operations by ensuring equipment is delivered on time, properly secured, and in compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, permit requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local transportation laws.

What You'll Do
  • Safely operate heavy haul trucks, lowboys, flatbeds, step decks, RGN trailers, and other tractor-trailer combinations as assigned.
  • Transport heavy construction and utility equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, trenchers, digger derricks, bucket trucks, cable pullers, reel trailers, cranes, skid steers, loaders, and other specialized assets.
  • Load, unload, chain, bind, flag, and secure equipment and materials in accordance with company standards, DOT regulations, and proper load securement practices.
  • Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, equipment, load securement, tires, lights, brakes, hydraulics, and safety equipment.
  • Verify load weights, dimensions, route restrictions, permits, escort requirements, and delivery instructions before transport.
  • Plan and follow safe routes for oversized or overweight loads, including awareness of bridge limits, height clearances, road restrictions, traffic conditions, and weather impacts.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, fuel records, bills of lading, delivery tickets, permits, and other required transportation documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with dispatch, fleet leadership, project managers, foremen, mechanics, vendors, and job site personnel regarding pickup and delivery status.
  • Report equipment defects, safety concerns, incidents, delays, route issues, or maintenance needs immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with basic equipment movement, yard organization, trailer staging, and general fleet support duties as needed.
  • Follow all company safety rules, customer site requirements, OSHA expectations, and utility construction worksite procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional truck and trailer while representing the company in a safe and courteous manner.
Required Qualifications
What You'll Bring
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean and acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating commercial tractor-trailers; heavy haul or equipment transport experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, vehicle inspection requirements, and load securement standards.
  • Experience loading, unloading, chaining, binding, and transporting heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to read and understand permits, route plans, maps, GPS instructions, delivery paperwork, and basic equipment information.
  • Ability to safely operate manual and automatic transmission trucks as required by the fleet.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT and company requirements.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, overnight travel, and overtime as project needs require.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, communication skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in utility construction, electrical transmission, distribution, gas, telecom, substation, foundation, or civil construction environments.
  • Experience operating lowboy, RGN, extendable, multi-axle, pole, reel, flatbed, step deck, or specialized utility trailers.
  • Experience hauling oversized or overweight loads and working with route permits and escort requirements.
  • Familiarity with construction equipment operation sufficient to load and unload equipment safely.
  • Tank, doubles/triples, or hazmat endorsements, if required by company operations.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to identify maintenance issues before they become safety or reliability concerns.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while maintaining focus and safe vehicle control.
  • Ability to climb on and off trucks, trailers, and equipment using three points of contact.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, twist, pull, and perform repetitive movements during inspections and load securement.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as needed, including chains, binders, straps, tools, and safety equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, mud, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, steel-toe boots, and other job-specific PPE.
