Job summary

Valmont Industries in Long Beach, CA is seeking a forklift operator to load and unload steel assemblies, operate a crane, and maintain yard safety and organization. You will follow DOT drug screening requirements and participate in safety meetings as part of daily responsibilities.

The role emphasizes customer service, adherence to shipping documents, and proper handling of materials to support efficient production and delivery. This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Must be forklift certified.
• Able to read and interpret shipping & receiving documents.
• Knowledge of steel types and galvanizing processes is helpful.
• Must pass mandated DOT drug screen and participate in safety meetings.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload steel assemblies and structures using forklift or overhead crane.
• Coordinate vehicle loading at customer yards for safe transport.
• Maintain yard organization and cleanliness and ensure safety in all areas.
• Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients or customers.
• Perform daily and periodic inspections of forklift and vehicle; report deficiencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Must obey and adhere to all vehicle road laws and vehicle operation restrictions.
• Ability to read and understand Shipping & Receiving Documents and identify and locate material with these documents.
• Must have of knowledge of various types of steel used in steel fabrications and their nomenclature.
• Ability to load and unload various steel assemblies and structures on and off trucks and trailers via forklift or overhead crane without causing damage to equipment and material and injury to personnel.
• Assist to identify material that may pose a problem to galvanize process to expedite customer notification and production.
• Ability to coordinate the loading of their vehicle at customer yard to allow for safe transport to Calwest yard.
• Ability to operate crane systems. (Optional)
• Must be forklift certified.
• Must assist in keeping yard area organized and debris free at all times and avoid waste of time and materials at all times.
• Must maintain the cleanliness and appearance of vehicle.
• Must maintain a clean and healthy appearance representative of the organization.
• Must provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients or customers.
• Must participate in mandated DOT random drug screen program and all safety meetings. Understand the use and maintaining electronic logs and manual logs.
• Perform daily and periodic scheduled inspections of forklift and assigned vehicle/s. Report deficiencies immediately to supervisor.
• Ensure straps, chains, binder inspections are completed during every use and serviceability of these items are verified prior to their use. Knowledge of when and how to use such equipment.
• Communicate effectively to personnel working under his direction, and to his Supervisor. Coordinate with Supervisors, Yard Persons, and Lead Persons to ensure maximum production in all areas of operations.
