Job summary

The Salvation Army of North Texas is seeking a Truck Driver responsible for collection and delivery of donations. This role involves driving a truck compliant with regulations, maintaining donor relationships, and performing strenuous tasks. Qualifications

  • Valid State Driver's License with CDL endorsement preferred.
  • One year experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides required knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Salvation Army truck on scheduled routes to pick-up and deliver donations.
  • Maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups and prepare donation receipts.
  • Assist in warehouse duties and Thrift Store operations as needed.

About this opportunity:

This position is responsible for driving the Salvation Army truck along scheduled route to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customer while also operating the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations. The truck driver must also be able to lift, carry, load and unload a variety of donations including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.

Key responsibilities:

  • Confers regularly with the Donations Scheduler to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations in accordance with the established policy.
  • Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.
  • Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.

Other Responsibilities :

  • Assists in loading the bail truck.
  • Assists in cleaning and maintaining the warehouse and loading dock area.
  • Assists in working in all areas of the Thrift Store operations as needed.
  • Performs special projects as needed.
  • Performs other related work as required.

What we are looking for in you:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not required and
  • Valid State Driver's License with CDL endorsement, if required and
  • One year experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills or abilities

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Manual dexterity. Ability to walk and stand on a frequent change basis in order to perform the duties of this position. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects up to 50 lbs. regularly and greater than 50 lbs. occasionally. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Work requires driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
