The Truck Driver III with King County Parks plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the county's parks and recreational spaces. The primary function is to safely and efficiently transport materials, equipment, and supplies to support various maintenance and improvement projects. This includes operating heavy vehicles (dump trucks, flatbeds, and trailers) often in challenging conditions. Projects such as trail maintenance and expansion, park renovations, environmental stewardship, and habitat restoration provide a diverse range of meaningful, measurable, and positive community impact.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Inspect assigned vehicles for safety and perform minor preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Drive a heavy truck in transportation of asphalt, sand, gravel, concrete, and other materials.
  • Drive a heavy truck and trailer to move equipment and materials to and from work sites.
  • Drive a heavy truck to spread gravel, salt, oil asphalt, and other materials.
  • Assist crew as needed when not driving trucks.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

  • Possession of a valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Airbrake Endorsement (NOTE: Permits are not accepted)
  • Minimum of two (2) years driving trucks with a minimum load capacity of five (5) and up to ten (10) yards.
  • Knowledge of proper truck height, weight restrictions, and load-securing procedures.
  • Knowledge of driving laws; defensive driving tactics and ability to read maps.
  • Skill in operating a commercial vehicle with a 26,001 pounds gross vehicle weight rating or over.
  • Skill in maneuvering a large truck in inclement weather and in high density traffic.

It Would Be Great If You Also Bring

  • Experience in loading equipment and operating utility trailers, as well as pulling transfer and pup trailers.
  • Experience in operating cement mixer truck, garbage truck, and street sweeper.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions

  • Work Location[CY1][MJ2]:Central Maintenance Facility - Renton
  • Work Schedule[CY3][MJ4]: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. The regular schedule is Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters L174-DLS, DNRP
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to bend, kneel, stand, reach, climb, stoop, squat, push, twist, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
