Job summary

Hales Sand & Gravel is hiring a skilled truck driver to manage the operation of dump trucks and deliver aggregates to various locations. Ideal candidates should have a valid CDL Class A and relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) Class A with appropriate endorsements.
  • Incident-free driving record preferred.
  • One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dump trucks, end dumps, and belly dumps safely and efficiently.
  • Keep time and material records.
  • Maneuver and back with pup trailer.

Job description

Position Overview

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of dump trucks, end dumps and/or belly dumps (with and without pups (trailers) and tarping systems). Drivers will deliver all types of aggregates, asphalt, and other materials to residential and commercial locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Thorough operational knowledge and skills of end dumps and/or belly dumps (with and without pups) and related equipment.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Keep time and material records.
  • Follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Know different types and sizes of aggregates.
  • Maneuver and back with pup trailer.
  • Communicate effectively on the radio system.
  • Connect and disconnect pup trailer.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; one to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
  • Valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class A with appropriate endorsements.
  • Valid medical card as per DOT standard.
Work Requirements
  • One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Incident-free driving record preferred.
  • May be subject to drug, alcohol, and physical agility testing.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Ability to communicate using two‑way radio.
  • Basic math.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

Frequent sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. Occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

The work environment may involve wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and/or heat. Noise level is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
