Risser’s Poultry in Lititz, PA is seeking a professional truck driver for over-the-road and farm-maneuvering routes within roughly 150 miles of the Lititz facility, with occasional overnight trips. You will operate hydraulic lift gates, assist with loading/unloading, and maintain professional appearance to represent the brand.

Qualifications

  • 1.1 Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid CDL for the class of vehicle driven.
  • 1.2 Minimum of one year of verifiable over-the-road driving experience in last three years.
  • 1.3 Clean driving record with no suspensions or major tickets in past 3 years.
  • 1.4 Must have a permanent home address and accessible phone.
  • 1.5 Must pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
  • 1.6 Must pass road test including driving, hooking/unhooking, pre-trip, parking, backing.
  • 1.7 Familiar with State & Federal rules governing commercial vehicles.
  • 1.8 Available for occasional overnight trips and varied starting hours.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicle and equipment for safe operation before departure.
  • Report maintenance needs after trips.
  • Operate vehicle per laws and safe driving practices.
  • Maintain required records (logs, inspections, fuel, mileage, tickets).
  • Follow directions to customer locations; report issues to Supervisor.
  • Assist in loading and unloading cargo as needed.
  • Ensure cargo is secure; confirm gates, bars, and legs are properly fixed.
  • Hook/unhook trailers; connect/disconnect lines and locks.
  • Report damage to company property and coordinate repairs.
  • Report damage to customer property to Supervisor.
  • Report accidents or violations immediately.
  • Wear appropriate footwear and attire; present company positively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Risser’s Poultry Truck Drivers must be able to perform the following job duties

  • 2.1 Inspect vehicle and required equipment to determine safe operating condition prior to departure.
  • 2.2 Upon returning from trip, report any maintenance issues that need corrected.
  • 2.3 Operate the vehicle in compliance with all local, state, federal, and company rules and regulations and in accordance with general accepted practices of safe driving.
  • 2.4 Maintain records as required for compliance with all local, state, federal and company rules and regulations including driver logs except where exempted by law, vehicle inspection reports, records of fuel purchases, mileage records, load tickets, etc. All paperwork must be completed in a neat and legible format and submitted in a timely manner.
  • 2.5 Follow directions to customer locations and if directions are in error or not efficient report suggestions and corrections to your Supervisor.
  • 2.6 Assist in loading and unloading cargo as required.
  • 2.7 Inspects load to ensure that cargo is secure with load bars in place, gates are closed, hydraulic trailer legs are secure, etc.
  • 2.8 Hook and unhook trailers by raising / lowering trailer landing gear, connecting or disconnecting air / electrical lines, engaging / disengaging fifth-wheel locks, etc.
  • 2.9 Report any damage to company owned property immediately to your Supervisor and then follow up with notification to the Maintenance Supervisor with any information which will help them access and repair the damage.
  • 2.10 Report any damage to customer owned property immediately to your Supervisor.
  • 2.11 Report any accidents immediately to your Supervisor even if no visible damage is evident.
  • 2.12 Report any traffic violations or parking violations immediately to your Supervisor.
  • 2.13 Wear proper footwear and apparel while on the job. Sneakers and other common-sense apparel that are not suitable and/or safe in a working farm environment are prohibited as are shirts which contain slogans that could be considered offensive. Drivers and their actions are representing the company to the customer and Driver appearance, apparel, footwear, attitude, etc. should place the company and the Driver in a positive and professional manner.
Requirements
  • 1.1 Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Commercial Driver’s License for the classification of vehicle being driven and the driver’s license must be issued by the state of residence. Any age exceptions based on extenuating circumstances must be approved by the Transportation Manager.
  • 1.2 Must have a minimum of one year of verifiable over-the-road driving experience within the last three years for the classification of vehicle being driven. Any experience exceptions based on extenuating circumstances must be approved by the Transportation Manager.
  • 1.3 Must have a clean driving record with no suspensions, serious tickets, or chargeable accidents in the past three (3) years.
  • 1.4 Must have a permanent home address and have telephone access where you can easily be contacted.
  • 1.5 Must be able to pass a D.O.T. Physical Examination and Drug Screen.
  • 1.6 Must be able to pass a road test including road driving, hooking, unhooking, pre-trip, parking, and backing.
  • 1.7 Must be completely familiar with all State and Federal rules and regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles.
  • 1.8 Must be available for occasional overnight trips and varied starting hours based on weekly schedule requirements.
Summary

This is a professional truck driver position that involves over the road and tight farm maneuvering driving skills. Most runs are within a 150-mile radius of the Lititz, PA based facility although occasional overnight runs may be required. Starting and completion times for runs will vary on a weekly and daily basis with several days’ notice provided in most cases. Trailers involve hydraulics and lift gates which the driver is expected to operate in farm environments while assisting with cart loading / unloading. The appearance of equipment and positive interactions with customers is important to the Risser’s Poultry brand and drivers are expected to represent their company accordingly. Safety, both on the road and on the farm, is of paramount importance in all cases.
