Qualifications

Position: Truck Driver

FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt

Location: Fraser, MI

Status: Full-time

Summary of Position: The Truck Driver is responsible for driving a heavy truck, transporting cargo safely to and from destinations in the metro Detroit area, Grand Rapids, and occasionally out of state (primarily home each night). The Truck Driver will also have duties and responsibilities within the shipping and receiving department.

Essential Duties:

  1. Responsible for ensuring tools are properly secured to prevent damage/injury.
  2. Responsible for fully understanding how to operate and safely drive assigned truck.
  3. Assist in mapping driving routes to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
  4. Perform inspections on the truck prior to and following each trip.
  5. Maintain and service the truck as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.).
  6. Communicate with production managers and shop office coordinators on all tools coming and going.
  7. Notify management of any major maintenance or delivery issues.
  8. Follow a delivery schedule while maintaining proper break times.
  9. Ensure proper tools match documents and maintain signatures on all documentation for every tool delivery and pickup.
  10. Obey all traffic laws and drive according to weather and road conditions.
  11. Assist in shipping and receiving by unloading trucks, accounting for each tool, and signing off on receiving documents.
  12. Coordinate with production and shop staff regarding tool movement and department allocation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles.
  2. Alert, focused, and detail-oriented.
  3. Physically and mentally fit, able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  4. Possess stamina for long shifts and comfort with long-haul transport.
  5. Operate equipment such as electric lifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks.
  6. Proficient with GPS and routing systems, with map reading and route planning skills.
  7. Self-motivated, disciplined, dependable, resourceful, and able to work independently.
  8. Maintain good stress management and composure.

Educational Requirements/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid CDL Class B license required.
  • 2+ years of proven commercial truck driving experience preferred.
  • Clean driving record with no violations.
