Job Title: Truck Driver - City of Des Moines

This position involves operating heavy trucks, assisting in loading and unloading, and performing construction and maintenance work. The role differs from Equipment Operators in the type of equipment used, including dump trucks, refuse collection trucks, and similar heavy equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least one year of experience operating various trucks.

Required Certifications and Conditions

• Valid Iowa Class A CDL with tank endorsement, capable of operating tractor trailers and vehicles with airbrakes.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screening.

Note: Out-of-state CDL holders must submit certified driving records by the application deadline to the City of Des Moines Human Resources Department via email, fax, or mail.

Essential Duties

• Operate trucks to haul materials, supplies, and refuse.

• Spread gravel, salt, sand, oil, and other road materials.
• Transport supplies and personnel as instructed.
• Drive trucks with snow plow attachments and operate similar equipment.
• Perform routine road maintenance tasks.

• Maintain accurate records of mileage and maintenance.
• Report mechanical issues promptly.
