School Summary

Great River Connections Academy (GRCA) is a tuition-free public online eSchool serving students in grades K-12 throughout Ohio beginning in the 2024 - 2025 school year. GRCA is authorized by the Ohio Council of Community Schools and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated through a contract with Connections Academy of Ohio, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working from Columbus, Ohio, the Truancy/Attendance Assistant seeks to assist and support the school in maintaining appropriate attendance records for students. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant supports students and parents by serving as the initial point of contact for student absences and attendance records.

The Truancy/Attendance Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Maintain attendance records for excused and disciplinary absences for K-12 through the monitoring of our school’s attendance system, including the school’s attendance line and email account;
  • Implement efforts to secure complete and accurate attendance records for students;
  • Assist the school with the truancy process by monitoring and communicating with families and staff regarding student’s attendance record, including the mailing and emailing of written notifications for approaching and reaching chronic absenteeism;
  • Communicate with families about attendance records in a timely and professional manner;
  • Report and refer critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards;
  • Keep abreast and adhere to all state of Ohio Academy attendance rules and requirements;
  • Understand state specific attendance and truancy regulations;
  • Manage escalation process for students in approaching alarm and alarm statuses;
  • Ensure staff compliance;
  • Work with school leaders to enforce the school's escalation policies;
  • Work with the school’s Registrar and Social Workers to file truancy;
  • Make changes to attendance as needed;
  • Monitor attendance reports and alert appropriate parties of any student who has not had attendance recorded in a specific period;
  • Enter attendance records into state system as needed;
  • Work as a collaborative member of the overall Administrative Assistant team to ensure team success and can perform or support other AA roles as needed during the year;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and web-based applications is essential;
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment;

  • High degree of flexibility;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced team environment;
