Job summary

Ak-Chin Indian Community seeks an informed Truancy Officer to implement the Truancy Abatement Program under the Education Director. You will handle education records, provide options to guardians, and coordinate with schools to improve attendance while upholding community laws.

The role requires strong mediation, recordkeeping, and cross‑agency collaboration to support students and families within Ak-Chin communities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Valid Arizona Driver's License; meet insurance carrier requirements.
• Pass background check.
• Ideal candidate fluent in O’odham language.

Responsibilities

• Administer the Truancy Abatement Program to offer options before penalties.
• Receive education records related to attendance and truancy.
• Issue notices of violations and assess fines under truancy laws.
• Negotiate with parents/guardians to participate in the program.
• Provide information to Prosecutor and counsel as needed for proceedings.
• Assist Prosecutor with court documentation for juvenile court proceedings.
• Communicate with school staff about attendance.
• Coordinate with Ak-Chin departments to implement the program.
• Maintain confidential attendance records and reports.
• Provide monthly status reports to Education Director.
