Job summary

Eversource in New Hampshire is hiring a Mid-shift Troubleshooter. The role involves working on energized and de-energized lines across voltage levels, using approved methods, and coordinating with field electricians to restore service during emergencies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Identify and isolate faulty primary and secondary equipment.
• Operate switching devices on overhead and URD systems.
• Collaborate with Field Electricians on overhead and underground systems.
• Clear faulty/unsafe conditions and restore service.
• Connect, disconnect, and operate portable transformers, generators, and temporary jumpers to restore service during emergencies.
• Replace failed transformers with assistance from others.
• Replace damaged or faulty services during initial response or follow-up maintenance.
• Repair and re-energize primary lines and components.
• Perform street light installation and repair.
• Conduct inspections of overhead/underground lines and substations; support security and emergency inspections.
• Take current and voltage measurements as required.
• Direct work of other Lineworkers as needed during emergencies.
• Apply standards and safe operating practices without reference to notes on recurring work.
• Operate inspections of overhead/ pad-mounted equipment.

Position Description

Mid shift Troubleshooter Troubleshooters generally work as a single man crew. Individuals will work on energized and de-energized lines and equipment, at all voltage levels, utilizing approved work methods, equipment, and tools in accordance with current training levels.

• identifying and isolating faulty primary and secondary equipment
• operating switching devices on overhead and URD systems
• work with Field Electricians on overhead and underground systems
• clearing faulty and unsafe conditions including maintaining, restoring electrical service
• connecting, disconnecting, and operating portable transformers, generators, and temporary primary jumpers to restore service under emergency or urgent conditions
• working with the Substation group to connect mobile substations
• replacing failed transformers with the assistance of another qualified person
• replacing damaged or faulty services during the initial response or as a follow up corrective maintenance after a temporary repair has been made
• repairing and re-energizing primary
• performing street light installation and repair
• installing and removing protective covers
• performing overhead and underground inspections and patrols and performing additional security, perimeter and emergency inspections of substations as necessary
• making current and voltage measurements as required
• directing the work of other Lineworkers assigned or necessary to assist with emergency conditions
• applying standards, operating procedures, services requirements, and safe operating practices relating to the work without reference to notes on work of a recurring nature
• operating and adjusting overhead and pad-mounted controlled equipment inspections as required

Position Requirements

Familiarity with line crew work gained through a total of at least four years’ line related experience and obtaining a Lineworker I classification or the equivalent is required. Individuals must have mechanical aptitude, a thorough knowledge of the electric transmission and distribution system, be analytical, alert, resourceful, and a work history that demonstrates safe work habits. The ability to climb is required. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, lifting, and working aloft in a bucket and in confined spaces. Must be able to respond to storm emergencies, extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Must obtain and maintain a New Hampshire High/Medium Voltage License. A Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B rating is required. You must also have the ability to obtain a CDL Class A rating with an "0" endorsement within six months of hire. You must successfully complete and pass a written and practical test before an offer is made for a Troubleshooter position. Bargaining unit employees with rights to this post will be given first consideration to be tested by order of seniority.

This is a Mid-Shift Troubleshooter position, rotational shift 10am – 10pm. This is a 3-2-2-3 rotation.
