Job summary

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe's Tribal School is seeking a reliable Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and on field trips. You will perform daily bus inspections, cleaning, and light maintenance to ensure safety and reliability, and coordinate services with the school district per the transportation agreement.

Qualified applicants will hold a valid CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, and School Bus endorsements (or be able to obtain them), have First Aid/CPR certification, and possess

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily transportation of students to and from school and on field trips.
  • Clean and perform minor maintenance on tribal school buses; inspect for safety.
  • Coordinate and implement bus services with the school district; maintain records.
  • Attend child development trainings and in-service sessions as needed.
  • Follow safety standards; carry out First Aid/CPR in emergencies; participate in training.

Job description

Position Title: Bus Driver

Department: Coeur d'Alene Tribal School

Supervisor: Tribal School Transportation Director

Funding: Federal

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides daily transportation of children to and from the Coeur d’Alene Tribal School on scheduled school days and field trips. Provides daily cleaning and minor repairs of the Tribal School vehicles. Inspects the buses daily and handles cleaning to ensure safety and cleanliness. Responsible for coordinating and implementation of the bus services agreement with the Coeur d’Alene Tribal School district. Maintains transportation records. Participates in child development training workshops and in-service training activities as needed. Maintains First Aid kits in buses, ensuring their contents meet requirements. Carries out light maintenance duties as assigned. Conducts First Aid and CPR on Tribal School children in emergency situations. Follows all Tribal School Performance Standards and guidelines. Other related duties as assigned to meet the Tribal School performance standards and to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the Coeur d’Alene Tribal School.

GENERAL
  • Must support the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s: vision, mission, and core values per Coeur d’Alene Tribal Resolution 015(2020).
  • Must comply with all other Health policies established by the Tribe or department.
  • No offenses related to dishonesty or theft.
  • Communicating or posting information or content on the Internet or using any social media platforms that adversely affects your job performance, the performance of co-workers, or otherwise adversely affects members, customers, or the Tribe and its administration negatively will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Must pass a background and employment check before employment –
    • No felony conviction
    • No offenses related to dishonesty or theft
    • No misdemeanor conviction within one year
  • Communicating or posting information or content on the Internet or using any social media platforms that adversely affects your job performance, the performance of co-workers, or otherwise adversely affects members, customers, or the Tribe and its administration negatively will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One or more years of experience driving and maintaining buses.
  • One or more years of experience working with young children.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of basic office skills.
  • Valid CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, and School Bus endorsements. (We can help the right candidate acquire this)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have a valid CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, and School Bus endorsements OR be able to obtain one in a reasonable time frame. (We can help the right candidate acquire this.)
  • Must love children.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activities.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Must pass an in-depth background investigation prior to employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (orally and in writing).
  • Must have a Department of Transportation physical examination, (DOT card).
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must pass an extensive background check prior to employment and every 5th consecutive year of employment after that according to the following:
    • 25 CFR 12 Part 32,
    • 25 CFR 63 Part 17, and Public Law 101-647.
  • Must not have any misdemeanor or felony offenses related to abuse, Domestic Violence, neglect, or endangerment.
  • Must support the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s: vision, mission, and core values per Coeur d’Alene Tribal Resolution 015(2020).
  • Must comply with all other Health policies established by the Tribe or department.
  • Must have an initial pre-employment physical exam and TB screening/test and annually thereafter, and must comply with all other Tribal Health policies including the annual flu shot.
  • No offenses related to dishonesty or theft.
  • Communicating or posting information or content on the Internet or using any social media platforms that adversely affects your job performance, the performance of co-workers, or otherwise adversely affects members, customers, or the Tribe and its administration negatively will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
