Position Summary
Under the general supervision of Tribal Ranger Captain, assures compliance of all Tribal Natural Resource Codes, Laws, Ordinances, Regulations and Policies.In the absence of the Tribal Captain will supervise all subordinate Tribal Rangers and Animal Control Officers. This position is a grade N16; pay is $39.56/hour.
Education And Experience
- Must have High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must have 5 years of experience in law enforcement, 3 years of which as a Police Officer.
- Must have 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Must have successfully completed the approved basic police training course conducted at the Indian Police Academy or similar accredited police academy substantially meeting or exceeding the level of training provided by the Indian Police Academy or a respective State POST certification.The certification from such academy or POST must be active and current and must be maintained through the duration of employment.
- Must pass a comprehensive Law Enforcement background investigation to obtain and maintain the Special Law Enforcement Commission (SLEC) prior to and throughout employment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Federal Deputy Special Officer Commission Card within year of appointment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Police Commission card within 90 days of appointment.
- Must have knowledge of the Southern Ute Wildlife Code and criminal justice system.
- Must have knowledge of reservation, public, and Tribal land ownership, location, and boundaries.
- Must be qualified with a handgun and shotgun and qualify thereafter semi-annually.
- Must be certified as first responder including First Aid and CPR.
- Must have general compute knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must maintain a telephone for emergency calls.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License for state of residency and must be insurable under the Tribal vehicle insurance policy.
- Must never have been convicted of a felony or a crime of misdemeanor domestic violence in Tribal, State or Federal court. Must not have been convicted of or placed on a deferred judgment for any misdemeanor crime for 1 year prior to appointment.Must never have been convicted of a wildlife violation.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical exam and annually thereafter.
- Must successfully pass a timed Physical Agility test during the first 90 days of employment and annually thereafter.The test will consist of a serpentine run, 150 lb. body drag, 3’ barrier vault, bed search, stair climb, 5’ barrier up & over, tunnel crawl and a lift & carry.
- Must pass a psychological evaluation prior to employment.
- Must be of excellent character and reputation and pass a thorough background check including Criminal History and fingerprint check.
- Must pass a LE pre-employment drug test.
