Position Summary
The Tribal Liaison will support natural resource management and conservation efforts on the Wind River Indian Reservation, linking science and initiatives across organizations. Responsibilities include developing research projects, engaging tribal members, and building capacity in natural resource monitoring. The role reports to the Beyond Yellowstone Living Lab Research Coordinator and collaborates with partners in WY and CA.

Responsibilities

  • Identify research needs on WRIR and evaluate opportunities for ecosystem understanding.
  • Support research efforts of the Beyond Yellowstone Living Lab.
  • Analyze data, contribute to reports, and develop relationships with tribal and conservation partners.
  • Coordinate with agencies and research partners.
  • Assess policies, develop research plans, and assist with background research and grant proposals.
  • Obtain necessary approvals for research on Tribal land.
  • Participate in training and build research capacity on WRIR.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with tribal members and collaborators.
  • Experience in conducting independent field research, including design, data management, and analysis.
  • Deep respect for local customs and tribal needs.
  • Strong communication skills for scientific and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in training and engaging youth and community members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with Indigenous Tribes, especially in environmental contexts.

Salary & Benefits
This full-time exempt position pays between $66,700 and $78,156 annually, with benefits, including professional development support. Exact salary depends on qualifications.
