Job summary

Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is seeking a Tribal Court Attorney to handle a variety of civil cases in tribal court, serving low-income families across southeastern Arizona.

The role requires Arizona Bar admission or eligibility, potential to practice before Tohono O’odham courts, and 2–5 years of advocacy experience. Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful, and familiarity with Tohono O’odham culture is beneficial. SALA offers competitive benefits and opportunities to serve the community.

Qualifications

• Active membership or eligibility for the Arizona Bar.
• Willing to apply for the Tohono O’odham Nation admission within three months of hire.
• 2–5 years of advocacy experience in civil, tribal government, or related settings.
• Sensitivity to legal issues in low-income communities; strong communication skills.
• Knowledge of general civil practice on behalf of the poor community is preferred.
• Criminal background check required.

Responsibilities

• Interview potential clients, perform intake, draft pleadings, and gather evidence.
• Participate in SALA’s community legal education programs.
• Do legal research, represent clients in tribal courts and tribunals, and conduct outreach.
