Job summary

Syngenta Seeds is seeking a Trialing and Product Placement Intern in Woodland, CA. You will support vegetable research and product development, gain hands-on experience, and work on a variety of activities across locations within California’s Salinas and Central Valleys.

The program offers exposure to day-to-day operations, a supportive learning environment, and a project-based internship under the Emerging Talent Program. Duration is May/June 2027 to August/September 2027.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline (Plant Biology, Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Genetics, Agronomy) preferred.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to safety and SOPs.
  • Support Trialing and Product Placement activities in field-related tasks.
  • Help implement phenotyping technology across California crops.
  • Collect, document, and curate data for accuracy.
  • Perform other duties to meet project needs.

Syngenta's Operations & Trialing Team is seeking a Trialing and Product Placement Intern in Woodland, CA. This internship role will support vegetable research and product development, gaining exposure to real-world agriculture in the largest vegetable market in the United States, building relationships with established vegetable experts, and conducting their own research project. This is a unique learning experience, as the Trialing Intern will participate in a variety of work activities in several locations.

As part of Syngenta's Emerging Talent Program, you will gain hands‑on experience, exposure to day‑to‑day business operations, and opportunities to apply your academic knowledge to real‑world challenges while developing your professional skills.

Duration: May/June 2027 – August/September 2027

Accountabilities:

  • Strictly adhere to all applicable safety and other relevant corporate policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines.
  • Support the Trialing and Product Placement Team and associated stakeholders in field‑related activities for the evaluation of new experimental germplasm.
  • Help implement novel phenotyping technology/protocols across various vegetable crops grown across California’s Salinas and/or Central Valleys.
  • Collect, document, and curate data for accuracy and integrity.
  • Perform other duties as required to meet project needs.

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Student must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline (Plant Biology, Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Genetics, Agronomy, or another closely related major is preferred).
  • Candidate seeks a future career in the agriculture industry.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) would be ideal but not required.
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong familiarity with the scientific method as applied to field experimentation.
  • Openness to working in agricultural conditions and flexible days/hours as required to get the job done.
  • Excellent communication skills to work well with co‑workers on tasks.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Contemporary digital skills, such as proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and standard digital communication platforms. Working proficiency in R is a plus.
  • Familiarity with experimental data capture and phenotyping is a plus.
  • Growth mindset: seeking opportunities to implement new procedures or technologies to improve work efficiencies, solve problems, or develop novel capabilities.
  • Knowledge of plant breeding.

Additional Information

Salary for this position ranges between $20 - $45 hourly.
