Job summary

The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) Mental Health Litigation Division seeks an experienced Private Panel Support Attorney for the Trial Panel Support Unit (TPSU). The role provides oversight and support to about 260 private attorneys serving roughly 12,000 clients annually in Civil Commitment and Guardianship cases.

Applicants must have five years of legal experience, including MHLD-related work, and be eligible to practice in Massachusetts.

Qualifications

• Must have five years’ legal experience, including at least four years on Mental Health Litigation issues.
• Must be eligible to practice law in Massachusetts or be eligible to engage in limited Massachusetts practice.
• Must have home internet access sufficient to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and advice to private panel attorneys in MHLD proceedings.
• Provide billing support and technical assistance to trial panel attorneys.
• Assist in developing resources such as practice advisories and pleading templates.
• Coordinate with Regional Coordinators to support panel attorneys and complete evaluations.
• Assist in MHLD Mentor program and in evaluating applications for the MHLD trial panel.
