Job summary

DCD Law in Los Angeles seeks a Trial Attorney for a full-time, on-site role. You will manage a criminal defense caseload from intake to resolution with direct client contact and strategic litigation, and you will support staff to ensure timely filings and high standards of advocacy.

Your duties include court appearances for arraignments, pretrial hearings, motions and trials; witness interviews, depositions, discovery review, and negotiations with prosecutors.

Qualifications

  • Ideally 2–3 years of experience in criminal defense.
  • Strong foundation in criminal law and procedure, with ability to analyze statutes, case law, and evidentiary issues.
  • Experience drafting and arguing motions, including suppression motions, pretrial motions, and sentencing memoranda.
  • Proven ability to appear in courts for hearings, negotiations, and client advocacy across various stages of the criminal process.
  • Demonstrated skill conducting and managing trials, including jury selection, opening statements, witness examination, and closing arguments.
  • Experience handling depositions or formal witness examinations, and effectively using testimony in case strategy.
  • Active license to practice law in California and in good standing with the State Bar.
  • Prior criminal defense or litigation experience preferred, including work on DUI, violent crime, or other felony and misdemeanor matters.
  • Excellent oral and written advocacy skills, strong negotiation abilities, and sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and maintain organized, detailed case files.
  • Spanish language proficiency is highly beneficial to serve a diverse client base.

Role Description

The Trial Attorney role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. The attorney will manage a criminal defense caseload from intake through resolution, including client interviews, legal research, case strategy development, and preparation of motions and other pleadings. Daily responsibilities include appearing in court for arraignments, pretrial hearings, motions, and trials, conducting witness interviews and depositions, and negotiating with prosecutors. The role involves reviewing discovery, evaluating evidence, advising clients on legal options and risks, and maintaining accurate case documentation. The attorney will also collaborate with support staff to ensure timely filings and uphold high standards of advocacy and professionalism.
