Job summary

Heart One Associates is seeking a Triage Medical Assistant to support our cardiology team in Phoenix, AZ. You will collect data, assess symptoms, and triage calls and walk-ins to determine appointment needs, medications, and test requirements.

The role requires a High school diploma (CMA/RMA preferred), BLS certification, and 2+ years in cardiology. You will document interactions in the EHR and coordinate with physicians to deliver timely, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; CMA/RMA preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiology experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patient calls and walk-ins to determine appointment needs.

Position Summary

The Triage Medical Assistant will collect data, make assessments, and determine needed interventions with patient care. This includes evaluating symptoms, effectiveness of treatment and when to call back. The medical triage MA will document patient complaints/symptoms, advice, and patient/caller response. The Triage MA will be responsible for triaging patient phone calls and walk-ins to determine necessity for medical appointments, prescription refills, discussing test results and other information needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Be positive, helpful, friendly, supportive, sincere, and genuine to all patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Be attentive and responsive to doctors’ and/or practice administrator/team leader requests in a timely manner.
  • follow all office policies and procedures.
  • Make decisions that reflect the best interests of Heart One Associates and provide quality patient care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality as governed by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Respond to patient calls, portal messages, and voicemails regarding symptoms, medication refills, test results, and general cardiac concerns.
  • Perform initial patient assessment by gathering pertinent information (symptoms, duration, medical history, medications, allergies, etc.) to determine urgency.
  • Collaborate with physicians, and APPs to provide appropriate care instructions and follow-up.
  • Schedule urgent or routine appointments and diagnostic tests as directed.
  • Follow established triage protocols for chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, edema, dizziness, and other cardiac symptoms.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Excellent communication and clinical judgment skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage high patient volumes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Travel to various practice locations as required to provide coverage.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) preferred.
  • Minimum 2-years of cardiology experience preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac terminology, medications, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules & regulations.
