Qualifications

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system; must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah, or completion of first round of clinical and current enrollment in approved nursing education program or successful RN program completion.
  • If an RN license is not obtained within three months, incumbent must obtain a current CNA.
  • Individuals with an RN license must have a CNA certification if they remain longer than three months.
  • Immunization per CDC standards and hospital policy; limited exemptions may apply for medical or religious reasons.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking experienced Certified Nursing Assistants to join our Ambulatory Clinical Care operation. The ambulatory group consists of 12+ pediatric specialty divisions and service lines.

This position supports one or more of these specialty divisions and provides assistive care to patients and their families. Incumbents facilitate the efficient delivery of ambulatory patient care, support the professional role of the licensed staff, and provide support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. In this position, incumbents also assist with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. Incumbents will support designated pediatric specialties.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Handle incoming medical calls; support patient care coordination by engaging with patients, families, clinical teams, and other stakeholders, conducting chart reviews, and problem-solving to address patient needs efficiently over the phone.
  • Alert care providers to significant changes in patient conditions or other critical information.
  • Place outbound calls, under physician direction, to relay results, reminders, and care instructions to patients and families.
  • Process medication refill requests per division-specific protocol.
  • Deliver patient education as directed and in line with Health Care Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant training, guidelines, care process models, and clinical guidelines.
  • Assist providers and clinical staff with patient-related paperwork and other division specific administrative functions as directed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Actively participate in customer service efforts and quality improvement initiatives.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah,or completion of first round of clinical and current enrollment in approved nursing education program or successful completion of RN program.

For those enrolled in a nursing program, incumbents have three months from completion of RN program to obtain an RN license. If an RN license is not obtained by the end of those three months, the incumbent must immediately obtain a current CNA.

Individuals in this job code with an RN license must also have a CNA certification if they remain in it longer than three months.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
