Job summary

Paylocity seeks a skilled backhoe operator to manage trenching, digging, and material handling on active job sites. The role requires safe operation in roadway work zones and adherence to OSHA guidelines.

Responsibilities include setting manholes and grading trenches, unloading materials, and maintaining equipment with daily inspections. Trade-school training or equivalent is preferred, with at least one year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• No formal education is required; trade school or related technical training is preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience operating a backhoe or similar equipment.
• Experience with trenching and/or excavation work required.
• Ability to understand and follow equipment operator manuals and manufacturer guidelines.
• Working knowledge of applicable safety policies and procedures, with the ability to identify hazards and take appropriate corrective action.

Responsibilities

• Operate a backhoe in active roadway work zones safely.
• Dig trenches to meet OSHA requirements and preset grades.
• Dig trenches and hold grade without the use of a laser.
• Unload materials and manage trench boxes and stone.
• Set manholes, inlets, and other structures.
• Assist in backfill and handle attachments.
• May work with a variety of attachments (hydraulic breaker, hydraulic tamper, grapple, stump splitter, etc.).
• Responsible for daily transportation to the job site.
• Perform daily machine maintenance and inspections.

Description

Operates tractor type vehicle equipped with a hydraulically powered bucket. Is responsible for maintaining job site and material in an organized and efficient order.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Be able to perform safe operations in active roadway work zones
• Digs trenches that meets OSHA requirements for trenching and excavating.
• Digs trenches to preset grades (pipe laser).
• Dig trenches and hold grade without the use of a laser.
• Unload materials.
• Stone in trenches when necessary.
• Make sure area is back to grade and has proper drainage.
• Move and use the stone box and trench box system.
• Set manholes, inlets, and other structures.
• Help in the backfill process.
• May work with a variety of attachments (hydraulic breaker, hydraulic tamper, grapple, stump. splitter, etc.).
• May dig inside trench box.
• Responsible for daily transportation to the job site.

Maintenance (on any attachments)

• Check fluids on machine and add if needed.
• Lubricate according to operator's manual instructions unless superseded by BEI policy and instruction.
• Perform daily visual inspection of the machine.
• Completes a daily inspection form.
• Clean tracks daily.
