Job summary

The City of New York’s NYC Parks is seeking a Climber & Pruner to maintain trees and large shrubs across city parks. You will climb, prune, brace, cut and fell trees and operate bucket trucks, chippers and other equipment to keep urban green spaces safe and healthy.

Six months of full-time arborist experience and a New York driver license are required; a Class B CDL must be obtained within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

• Six months of full-time arborist/tree work experience, including climbing, pruning, bracing and felling.
• Experience operating manual, power driven and motorized equipment for tree work.
• Driver License valid in NY; Class B CDL required within one year of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Planting, maintenance and removal of trees and large shrubs.
• Climb, prune, brace, cut and fell trees and large shrubs.
• Operate bucket truck, aerial lift, chipper and similar equipment.
• Identify hazard defects and ensure public safety.
• Perform tree inspections.
• Identify trees by species and inspect for pests and diseases.
• Prepare and use composting sites.
