Job description

TREE CLIMBER

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS

CITY OF WORCESTER

The Department of Public Works & Parks is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Tree Climber. Responsibilities include performing manual tasks related to the trimming, pruning, spraying, and removal of trees within the city. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, but employees may be required to work any 8 hours within a 24-hour period and any 5 days of the week. Overtime eligibility applies.

Key qualifications for all Tree Climbers include:

  1. Considerable knowledge of tree climbing, trimming, treatment, and removal methods.
  2. Extensive knowledge of and ability to tie knots used in forestry operations.
  3. Ability to learn the use and care of ropes, knots, climber hooks, riggings, and tools used in tree trimming and felling.
  4. Ability to perform manual work requiring strength and endurance daily.
  5. Ability to climb, visually identify trees, and work at heights in precarious positions.
  6. Knowledge of bucket truck operation and ability to work in trucks at great heights.
  7. Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
  8. Must pass a pre-employment physical, reference check, and CORI check.
  9. Subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing during employment.
  10. Willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 18 months of employment.

Starting hourly rate of pay: $21.16 per hour.
