The City of Amarillo is seeking a Treatment Plant Operator I to assist in the operation and quality control of the wastewater treatment plant. You will perform rounds, monitor flows, collect samples, and help maintain records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and city regulations.

Work on assigned shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. You must obtain the TCEQ Class D certification within one year and hold a valid Texas driver’s license.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Certification within 1 year of employment.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant preferred.

• Monitors and records plant flow.
• Collects samples for laboratory analysis and performs standard tests.
• Maintains records for operations control (every 2 hours).
• Checks pumps, motors, engines, and blowers; reports status to supervisor.
• Maintains flow distribution to units (industrial, equalization, digestion, sludge).
• Removes debris from clarifier as needed.
• Communicates plant status and hazards to oncoming operator.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsible for the quality of effluent as set by Federal, State, and City regulations. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES*** Makes periodic rounds of the plant to assure that the plant process is operating properly.* Monitors and records the flow through the plant.* Collects samples for laboratory analysis.* Performs standard tests for operations control.* Maintains records for operations control of the plant (every 2 hours).* Checks all pumps, motors, engines, and blowers and associated equipment.* Fills out maintenance request forms on equipment not operating properly.* Reports the status of the plant to the supervisor.* Maintains flow distribution to; industrial, equalization, digestion, sludge, etc.* Removes debris from clarifier as needed.* Communicates to the oncoming operator the plant status and any hazards.* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED). Must be able to obtain a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification within one (1) year of employment. A valid Texas Class C Driver’s License is required. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant is preferred.**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*** Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.* Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.* Ability to operate and make minor repairs to small hand tools, small pieces of equipment, PH meters, analytical balances and CL2 safety equipment.* Ability to safely drive a pick-up truck.**ADA PROFILE**Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
