Job summary

City of Deerfield Beach is seeking a senior financial services professional to assist the Chief Financial Officer in planning and organizing the Financial Services Department. The role manages daily operations of accounting and treasury, including payroll, accounts payable and billing for utilities and licenses.

The position requires strong knowledge of GASB/GAAP, audit coordination, and strategic financial planning, with at least seven years in accounting/finance and four years in supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related major.
• Seven years of accounting/finance experience or equivalent.
• Four years of supervisory experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; directs work, counsels, disciplines and completes employee appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes schedules; monitors progress; provides direction as needed.
• Manages the annual external audit and the development of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
• Directs accounting, payroll, revenue collections, disbursements, funds investment, performance audit, and related software.
• Develops and recommends new systems and procedures for accounting and treasury activities; evaluates segregation of duties.
• Assists the CFO with debt and investment management, budget development, and long-range financial planning.
• Maintains compliance with GASB/GAAP and internal controls; conducts internal audits as necessary.
• Compiles detailed financial data for reports to County, State agencies and others; prepares Census data and annual reports.
• Assumes departmental leadership in CFO’s absence; performs other duties as needed.
