Job description

JB Dental Lab, a leading dental laboratory in Tempe, Arizona, is seeking a self-motivated, skilled, and experienced Traveling Dental Surgical Assistant specializing in Full Arch and Hybrid Implants. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality dental solutions to our clients. Job Summary:

The Surgical Assistant will work alongside the dentist and dental team to provide clinical and administrative support. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who has gained some experience in the dental field and is looking to develop their skills further.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the dentist and dental team with chairside procedures, including preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing equipment, and providing suction and instrument passing.
  2. 75% of the roles involve travel. Responsibilities will mirror local assistance duties.
  3. Training will take place worldwide on office equipment. Initial training will be conducted alongside our team before they work independently. Additional training courses are required for independent operation, covering topics such as scanning, photogrammetry, and printing.
  4. Take and develop dental X-rays and other imaging as needed.
  5. Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
  6. Maintain accurate patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes.
  7. Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and treatment plans, answering questions, and ensuring patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
  8. Work collaboratively with the dental team to ensure a seamless patient experience.
  9. Perform advanced chairside tasks, such as taking digital impressions, fabricating temporary crowns and bridges, and placing restorative materials.
  10. Assist in implant surgery and other advanced surgical procedures.
  11. Train and mentor entry-level dental surgical assistants as needed.
  12. Perform administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and answering phone calls.
  13. Ensure that all equipment is properly sterilized and maintained.

Patient Care:

  1. Comfortably and professionally interact with patients, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and maintaining a calm and reassuring atmosphere in the surgical suite.

Instrument Sterilization:

  1. Maintain strict infection control protocols by properly sterilizing and organizing surgical instruments and equipment.

Diagnostic Imaging:

  1. Capture and process diagnostic images and 3D scans to aid in treatment planning.

Implant Restoration Support:

  1. Collaborate with the dental laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of implant-supported restorations.

Recordkeeping:

  1. Maintain accurate patient records and progress notes.

Continuing Education:

  1. Stay abreast of the latest dental implantology and surgical techniques advancements through ongoing education and training.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Attend training and educational courses to maintain and improve knowledge and skills.
  2. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with patients and team members.
  3. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the dental practice.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned by the dentist or dental team.
  5. Chairside digital impression and photogrammetry.
  6. Be a thought partner to our doctors to ensure treatment meets their goals.
  7. Maintain strong attention to detail to produce high-quality patient records.
  8. Communicate with our internal team to relay design/case questions or issues to doctors.

Education / Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; certification or associate degree in dental assisting preferred.
  2. At least 1-2 years of experience as a dental surgical assistant.
  3. Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and procedures.
  4. Experience with CAD/CAM systems and other digital dentistry tools preferred.
  5. Strong communication and patient care skills.
  6. Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with other team members.
  7. Knowledge of infection control procedures and sterilization techniques.

Required Skillsets / Physical Demands (Other):

  1. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  2. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  3. Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to work with small instruments and equipment.
  4. Exposure to potentially infectious materials and hazardous chemicals.
  5. Familiar and know how to use an IOS Scanner (Required).
  6. MUST have experience taking high-quality digital patient records.
  7. Proficient in dental anatomy/terminology/morphology.
