Role Summary
The Superintendent will help plan, manage, and execute all aspects of assigned projects with some complexity. Responsibilities include managing materials and equipment, assisting with people management, ensuring documentation is complete, and meeting project goals for timely and profitable completion, all aligned with JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core
- Lead safety culture and promote an injury-free environment, investigating incidents and retraining staff as needed.
- Manage subcontractors and organize overall project workflow.
- Oversee company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs like Safety, Quality, and EEO for small or large project segments.
- Develop work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Coordinate project site care, custody, and control.
- Lead meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
- Participate in progress and project OAC meetings.
- Create and adjust project schedules in collaboration with the Project Manager.
- Monitor project budget and costs, utilizing project management systems.
- Communicate key project information to all stakeholders.
- Maintain project documentation and update drawings, logs, and notebooks.
- Record and approve unit costs, complete daily and tracking reports.
- Evaluate progress and adjust plans as needed.
- Manage material and equipment needs.
- Support procurement and approval processes for materials and logistics.
- Assist in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform activities.
- Manage timecard approvals and ensure accurate reporting.
- Ensure quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC, and external resources.
- Support project closeouts, including pre-punch activities and coordination with owners and authorities.
- Understand project pursuit processes and methodologies.
- Participate in project planning, staffing, and change management.
- Engage in negotiations with owners and architects regarding project changes.
- Contribute to project review meetings and subcontractor buyouts.
- Understand and apply contractual terms and conditions.
- Identify and recruit top talent.
- Promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, ensuring policy adherence.
Additional Responsibilities
Manage complex standalone projects from start to finish, overseeing scheduling, production, safety, and quality. Actively manage project risks, resolve problems, and coordinate deliverables across internal resources and external partners. Participate in project pursuits and negotiations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years construction experience.
- At least 3 years of field supervision experience.
- Experience with Lean principles preferred.
Working Environment
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Potential travel and/or relocation.
- Exposure to extreme conditions.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
- Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, etc.
