Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a skilled welder to join their dynamic team. In this role, you'll be responsible for interpreting blueprints and performing Shielded Metal Arc Welding to meet project specifications. You'll work closely with a dedicated field crew to ensure installations are completed efficiently and safely. Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Journeyman Welding experience required.
  • Ability to perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Cored Arc Welding (FLUX).
  • Current OSHA 10 or MSHA Certification preferred.

Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Reads and interprets project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks at hand.
  2. Performs Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) based on project needs.
  3. Field install welds, including duct work, light fixtures, vents, fans, metal sheeting, and other parts.
  4. Selects proper fillers for jobs based on previous experience or project instructions.
  5. Coordinates with field labor crew for efficient installations.
  6. Conserves resources whenever possible to ensure budgetary integrity and client satisfaction.
  7. De-burs and grinds metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture.
  8. Takes personal responsibility for fostering a safe workplace by following safety policies and procedures.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. May train or supervise others in job duties.
  2. May perform a variety of duties including those of other positions.

Education / Experience:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Three or more years of Journeyman Welding experience required; ability to Shielded Metal Arc Weld (STICK/ARC) and/or Flux Cored Arc Welding (FLUX) preferred.
  3. Industrial machine licenses (such as a forklift license) preferred.
  4. Current OSHA 10 or MSHA Certification preferred.
  5. TWIC card preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  2. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  3. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, or other industrial structures.
  4. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  5. Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  6. Skill in the standard use of tools and equipment of the profession.
  7. Ability to work successfully as a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  8. Ability to understand and follow directions.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  10. Ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and prints.
  11. Ability to comprehend and troubleshoot mechanical systems.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Coordinate eye-hand movements with control and precision.
  2. Use hands and fingers fully; reach for, manipulate, and feel objects; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  3. See and hear well (either naturally or with correction).
  4. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  5. Stoop, lay, bend or squat for long periods of time.

Working Conditions:

  1. May be exposed to fumes, dust, or other airborne particles.
  2. May be exposed to loud noises.
  3. Position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and vibrating machinery.
  4. May be exposed to extreme outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, or cold and wet conditions.
  5. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals or waste.

Other:

  1. Travel will be required. Must be willing to travel and work from project sites on a nationwide basis for long periods of time.
  2. Overtime will be required.
  3. Shift work may be required.
  4. Holiday and weekend work may be required.

Required Tools:

Must possess and bring hand tools to each job site such as: Hammers, Chipping Tools, Grinders, Welding Hood, Welding Gloves, Stingers, Clamps, Pliers, and Brushes.
