Job summary

Kanawha County Public Schools is seeking an itinerant Educational Sign Language Interpreter to provide sign language interpretation across pre-K through 12 settings. You will support students, teachers, and staff with communication access during instructional and extracurricular activities.

Position involves collaboration with building staff, meeting West Virginia credential requirements, and adhering to district policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Registered with WVDE or state credentialing for educational interpreters required.
• Demonstrated competency per WV Code and Board policies; WV paraprofessional certificate/EIPA could be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide communication access through sign language in K‑12 settings.
• Interpret for students, teachers, and staff throughout the school day.
• Attend IEP meetings to discuss student communication needs.
• Coordinate with educators to plan interpreting services.
• Maintain professional conduct and adherence to Interpreter Code of Ethics.
