Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in California is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform venipuncture and skin puncture for diagnostic testing. You will label, centrifuge when needed, and ensure proper specimen handling for laboratory processing.

The role supports Laboratory Technologists and educates staff on venipuncture techniques, while maintaining customer service standards and accurate accessioning in KPDS and LMS systems. Requires relevant phlebotomy certification and high school diploma.

Qualifications

Six months acute care phlebotomy experience or 1 year outpatient phlebotomy experience or 1 year as a Medical Assistant performing venipuncture or 1 year equivalent military experience or completion of a 5 month student phlebotomy training program through Kaiser Permanente.
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California)

Responsibilities

Performs venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood samples for diagnostic testing.
Labels samples and transmits to Laboratory or Laboratory Technologist following instructions to include refrigeration or centrifugation of sample.
Assists Laboratory Technologist with routine tests and processing of samples.
Aids in instructing registered nurses and other personnel in venipuncture and skin puncture.
Performs accessioning of patient orders in KPDS and LMS systems and ensures orders drawn.
