Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Phlebotomist certification or diploma is required.
• BLS is required within three months of hire and must be current.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages, ensuring accurate collection with minimal discomfort.
• Assess patient conditions and select appropriate blood collection sites based on safety and anatomy.
• Label and prepare specimens for in-house testing or shipment to reference labs with proper identification.
• Enter data and accession specimens for reference laboratories with compliant record-keeping.
• Perform waived testing per Clinical Nursing Policies, ensuring safety and quality standards.
• Report abnormal results to the ordering provider and verify verbal results from reference labs before notifying.
• Maintain laboratory logs and ensure timely filing of reports and reconciliations.
• Ensure daily start/end duties comply with SCHC policies and procedures.
• Report faulty equipment or supply issues promptly to the appropriate personnel.
• Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment, ensuring sterility and proper function.
• Greet patients and explain procedures clearly to ensure a positive experience.
• Assist patients with forms or documentation during blood collection.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab personnel for patient care and communication.
• Assist in training new lab personnel and students on phlebotomy best practices.
• Participate in QA activities and track data related to blood collection and lab performance.
• Perform additional tasks as needed to support the centers.
