Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Outside Machinist with strong marine/shipyard background to support submarine overhaul and modernization programs. You will perform precision mechanical work to restore, align, install, and test equipment to NAVSEA/SUBSAFE and program standards.

Responsibilities include working aboard submarines at Electric Boat Base, repairing valves and hydraulics, installing hatches, performing surface prep and painting, and documenting workmanship for quality control.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of Outside Machinist experience.
• 6+ years of experience reading designs and drawings.
• Experience working on valves, pumps, and hydraulics.
• 6+ years of experience with PMI tools like Olliscopes, Calipers, and Gauges.
• Experience working on a submarine or naval ships.

Responsibilities

• Work aboard submarines at the Electric Boat Base, following all site access and safety protocols.
• Repair, overhaul, and test mechanical components including valves, pumps, and hydraulic systems (overhaul work, not new construction).
• Install hatches and covers and complete associated mechanical fits and adjustments.
• Perform surface preparation (grinding, prep) and painting according to procedure for completed work packages.
• Troubleshoot across propulsion, combat/weapon, torpedo, and auxiliary systems; perform alignments, measurements, and post-maintenance checks.
• Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions; complete documentation for quality and traceability.

You’ll perform precision mechanical work on critical shipboard systems restoring, aligning, installing, and testing equipment to meet NAVSEA/SUBSAFE and program standards.

What You’ll Do:

• Work aboard submarines at the Electric Boat Base as the workload requires, following all site access and safety protocols
• Repair, overhaul, and test mechanical components including valves, pumps, and hydraulic systems (overhaul work, not new construction)
• Install hatches and covers and complete associated mechanical fits and adjustments
• Perform surface preparation (grinding, prep) and painting in accordance with procedure for completed work packages
• Troubleshoot and work across propulsion, combat/weapon, torpedo systems, and auxiliary systems, executing alignments, precision measurements, and post maintenance checks
• Read/interpret blueprints, work instructions, and controlled work processes; complete documentation to support quality and traceability requirements
