Job summary

Nuva-Smile in New Jersey is seeking a part-time Orthodontic Assistant to support a busy family practice across multiple locations. The role requires assisting with orthodontic procedures, radiographs, and patient education while maintaining records and sterilization protocols.

The ideal candidate will hold an orthodontic assistant program or relevant clinical experience, a valid dental assistant and X-ray license, and strong communication skills. Travel to listed NJ offices is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; orthodontic assistant program preferred.
• Dental assistant license or relevant clinical experience.
• X-ray license required.
• Experience with orthodontic procedures and terminology.

Responsibilities

• Assist orthodontist in patient assessment and treatment planning.
• Assist and prepare orthodontic procedures, such as fitting braces, adjusting wires, and placing elastics.
• Sterilize, set up and prepare orthodontic equipment and instrumentation.
• Preparation and maintenance of medical records and documentation.
• Create patient file entries.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays).
• Provide patient instruction and education on oral hygiene and care.
• Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment.
• Perform basic laboratory duties.
• Schedule patient appointments.
• Manage patient flow.
• Under the supervision of the Orthodontist, deliver and assist with direct patient care.
• Take diagnostic records.
• Document and prepare cases.
• Other duties as assigned.
