Job Title

Optometric Office Technician / Medical Office Administrator

Reports To

Store General Manager

FLSA Status

Hourly; Non-Exempt

Position Purpose

The Optometric Office Technician assists the Managing Optometrist with technical and administrative tasks, interacts with patients to deliver exceptional service, and promotes patient retention and satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
  • Taking patient medical histories
  • Preparing patients for examinations
  • Administering tests prior to eye exams
  • Assisting doctors during examinations
  • Ordering glasses and contact lens supplies
Administrative Duties
  • Greeting and directing patients
  • Answering phones
  • Maintaining Electronic Medical Records
  • Verifying insurance and obtaining authorizations
  • Scheduling appointments and adjusting schedules
  • Processing insurance claims and billing
  • Performing optometric and vision insurance billing and coding
  • Managing accounts receivable and payable
  • Bookkeeping
  • Selling glasses and contact lens supplies

No clinical experience is necessary; clinical skills can be learned on the job.

Travel Requirements
  • Occasional local travel within a 15-mile radius
Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of recent optometric technician experience
  • Strong communication skills to exceed customer expectations
  • Ability to manage priorities and adapt
  • Experience with computers preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance
  • High school diploma or equivalent
