Job summary

Texas Children’s is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Technician to join a growing ophthalmology team. This floater role travels between Houston-area offices to provide pediatric and adult ophthalmic care, including visual acuity testing and instrument maintenance.

Requirements include a HS diploma or GED, COA/COT certification or TX OPT license, and 2 years in an ophthalmology/optometry setting. The position emphasizes quality improvement efforts and cross-location collaboration.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• COA/COT certification or OPT license authorized by IJCAHPO/Texas Optometry Board required.
• 2 years of ophthalmology/optometry office experience required.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, and related ophthalmic assessments for both children and adults.
• Maintain ophthalmic instruments (ophthalmoscopes, retinoscopes, lensometers, perimeters, slit lamps, keratometers, etc.).
• Participate in hospital quality improvement activities and clinic staff meetings; document findings and recommendations.
• Assist physicians in examining ROP infants in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Coordinate appointments, track active ROP infants, and arrange staff training to ensure efficient operations and compliance.
