Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform visual acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, and related ophthalmic assessments for both children and adults.
• Maintain ophthalmic instruments (ophthalmoscopes, retinoscopes, lensometers, perimeters, slit lamps, keratometers, etc.).
• Participate in hospital quality improvement activities and clinic staff meetings; document findings and recommendations.
• Assist physicians in examining ROP infants in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Coordinate appointments, track active ROP infants, and arrange staff training to ensure efficient operations and compliance.

We're searching for a Certified Ophthalmic Technician, someone who's ready to be part of a growing team with amazing opportunities. In this position, you'll provide ophthalmic technical support in the patient care area in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0 to 18 years) and adults as necessary.

This is a floater position. The COT will be responsible to travel to different offices throughout the Houston area.

Skills & Requirements:

• H.S. Diploma or GED required
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification authorized by International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) or Optometrist (OPT) license authorized by Texas Optometry Board required
• 2 years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry office required

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs visual acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, exophthalmometry, Amsler grid, Schirmer test, pupil evaluation, anterior chamber depth assessment, stereo testing, ocular motility on extraocular muscle actions, strabismus, amblyopia, and assessment methods on children and adults
• Performs basic instrument maintenance on ophthalmoscopes, retinoscopes, lensometers, perimeters, tangent screen, phoropter/trial frames, slit lamps, keratometers, muscle light, and surgical instruments
• Participates in hospital quality improvement activities, offers written or verbal recommendations and participates in the yearly development of team goals
• Attends clinic staff meetings and reads minutes 90% of the time to keep abreast of current information as documented in the meeting sign-in sheets
• Assists physician in examining ROP infants in both the inpatient and outpatient setting
• Coordinates appointments, compiles list and tracks active ROP infants
• Provides and/or arranges for and documents the training of department staff to assure efficient department support staff operations and department-wide compliance with Hospital and JCAHO standards
