Job summary

Wachter, Inc. in Chicago seeks a Traveling Technician to install, terminate, and test Cat6 and fiber cabling in large warehouses and distribution centers.

You’ll coordinate daily tasks with the Foreman, operate lifts, and travel across sites, with steady OT and a chance to lead small crews. The role requires 2–5+ years in low-voltage or data cabling, proficiency with prints, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• 2-5+ years of low-voltage or data cabling experience.
• Strong Cat6 and fiber termination and testing skills.
• Experience with paging, wireless/AP cabling, CCTV, and access control cabling.
• Read prints and work with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working at height and in large warehouse environments.
• Willingness to travel extensively and work 50-60 hour weeks.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test Cat6 and fiber cabling.
• Perform paging, wireless/AP cabling, CCTV, and access control cabling.
• Lead and support small crews of 2-4 technicians as a working lead when assigned.
• Build and dress MDFs, IDFs, racks, patch panels, and cable management.
• Install cable pathways including J-hooks, ladder rack, innerduct, and tray.
• Operate boom and scissor lifts (40+ ft work).
• Troubleshoot cabling and system issues.
• Ensure cables are neatly dressed, labeled, and installed per standards.
• Provide daily progress updates to the Lead or Foreman.
• Follow all safety, quality, and site requirements.
