Traveling Land Surveyor

Independence Excavating is looking to hire a full time Traveling Land Surveyor that will be responsible for preparing and reviewing data for field crews. The Surveyor will be preparing and approving cut sheets and as-builts on construction projects.

A typical day looks like:

  1. Producing and verifying cut sheets
  2. Overseeing and coordinating the initial layout at the job site and providing continuous monitoring of the same
  3. Providing work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct installation of material by crafts
  4. Checking as-built conditions that require the use of surveying techniques
  5. Providing topographic and cross-section surveys as required for planning and payment quantities
  6. Supervising Surveying Technician and Surveying Trainee personnel
  7. Regularly making important decisions on interpreting drawings and specifications and applying them to the physical layout at the job site.

Do you have what it takes?

  1. Active Professional Land Surveyor License
  2. Minimum HS Diploma. Additional training and/or related certificate preferred
  3. Minimum five years of previous related experience
  4. Comfort level with Trimble GPS equipment, Trimble machine control, Trimble total station setup, etc.
  5. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  6. Ability to build surfaces for GPS equipment
  7. Utilize and have a thorough understanding of surveying practices and equipment use
  8. Must have good math skills
  9. Must be able to verbally communicate instructions and plans well with all internal and external contacts
  10. Must be able to effectively communicate rationale behind decisions made
  11. Work must be performed carefully and with great accuracy
  12. Must have a valid driver's license
  13. This is a field and office position - willingness to work outside and in all weather conditions
  14. Occasional overtime may be necessary during peak times
  15. Be open to 100% traveling to projects
