What you’ll do as a Traveling Laborer
- Perform general construction work under the direction of Foreman/Supervisor
- Install and maintain underground fiber optic and other telecommunications cabling service lines
- Operate or work around various types of construction equipment and machinery
- Hand dig using shovel and/or mechanical tools
- Maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination
- Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies
- Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers, and flagging traffic when necessary
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
- Basic knowledge of and ability to safely use hand tools and equipment
- Effective communication skills with customers and team members
- Regular and timely attendance
- Ability to work overtime, after hours, weekends, and be on-call for emergencies
- Adherence to OSHA and FMCSA/DOT regulations
- Extended travel throughout the Telcom footprint is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of operating utility trucks and equipment safely
- Unrestricted Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement (higher wages for CDL holders)
Physical Requirements:
- Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
- Lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed
- Stand, crouch, sit, bend, handle or feel with hands, reach high and low, while wearing safety gear
- Work in adverse weather conditions and long driving/sitting periods
Pay Range: $21 - $26 / Hr
