Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. (ESS) is seeking an experienced Traveling Heavy Equipment Operator to support heavy civil construction projects. The role requires operating excavators, dozers, skid steers, and telehandlers with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork on challenging field conditions.

The position involves travel for 12+ months, staying aligned with project needs, and coordinating with site crews to ensure efficient, safe progress on all assignments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience in heavy civil construction.
• Experience operating excavators, dozers, skid steers, and telehandlers.
• Must be willing to travel and work out of state for extended periods.
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Ability to read grade stakes, construction plans, and project layouts.
• Strong safety, maintenance, and daily inspections practices.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently on civil projects.
• Perform excavation, grading, and site preparation per specs.
• Read grade stakes, markings, and project plans.
• Assist with trenching, earthwork, and utility installation support.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and used safely with crews.
• Collaborate with superintendents and crew to complete projects safely.
• Identify and resolve issues on site.
